Summary

Games against the computer, puzzles, lessons and Pass & Play run on your device. The app connects to our servers for online play, and from version 2.2 it can send optional usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase, which you can switch off. Checkers shows no ads, does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or App Tracking Transparency, and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We never sell data.

Stored on your device

Your profile name, avatar, country, settings, game history, rating against the computer, statistics, and puzzle and lesson progress are stored on your device. They are removed when you delete the app.

Game Review (version 2.3 and later)

Game Review analyses your finished games with the app’s own engine, entirely on your device, and keeps the results with your game history. On devices with Apple Intelligence turned on, some move explanations may be phrased by Apple’s on-device model; your games are not sent anywhere for this, and no new data is collected.

Online play

When the app starts, it prepares online play and match recovery by creating an anonymous player ID with our authentication provider. When you play online we process:

If you use match chat, the server relays your messages and quick phrases to your opponent. Up to 40 recent lines are held in match memory so they can be replayed after a reconnect; this is not a permanent database chat history. Chat text is not sent to Google Analytics. You can mute, report or block an opponent. If you choose to send a report, it can include the relevant opponent, match and chat context and your description so the issue can be investigated.

If you choose a profile photo, the app uploads a resized JPEG for your online profile and stores it with your player ID so it can be shown to other players. We store in-app friend requests, friendships and challenges to provide the friends feature; we do not read your phone address book. If you enable online notifications, your Apple push token is stored with your player ID to deliver friend and challenge notifications.

Sign in with Apple (optional)

Signing in is needed only for Ranked games and a permanent @username. Apple may share your email address, or a private relay address, with our authentication provider. You can delete your online account in Play Online → Account; this removes your player profile, ratings and online games. To have the sign-in record itself removed as well, email us at the address below.

Usage statistics (version 2.2 and later)

When Share usage data is on (Settings), the app sends events such as “game finished”, “puzzle solved” or “Coach screen closed”. Each event carries coarse values only: the rule variant, the bot level, a time range, which button was tapped. Google adds a random per-install identifier, an approximate region and the device type. Usage events and acquisition metadata are associated with this installation identifier, so these statistics are pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous. We never send your name, username, photo, profile country, moves or anything you type, and we never link these statistics to your online account. They are kept for up to 14 months. Switching the setting off stops further collection.

In the European Union and European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Russia, the setting starts off until you allow it. Elsewhere it starts on, and you can switch it off at any time.

When usage statistics are enabled, Checkers can ask Apple whether this installation followed an Apple Ads campaign. It sends the short-lived attribution token only to Apple. Campaign, ad group and keyword identifiers, the App Store country, attribution status and conversion type can accompany subsequent usage and purchase-lifecycle events sent to Google. The token itself is never sent to Google or stored. Missing attribution remains unknown or not attributed; we do not request IDFA or link this information to your online account. TestFlight and development builds do not send data to the production analytics property.

Google derives an approximate country or city from the IP address used to connect; Checkers does not request GPS or precise location. Usage statistics also include bucketed technical timings, such as loading Coach plans and analysing games or producing move explanations. Firebase may collect limited installation-service diagnostic data. These do not include your moves, chat or typed text.

Purchases

The Checkers Coach subscription and the take-back and hint packs are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy; we never see or receive your payment details.

Apple may also supply signed purchase and subscription notifications containing product, transaction and original transaction identifiers, environment, dates, price and currency. We use verified records to distinguish free trials from charges, renewals and refunds, and to avoid counting a repeated notification twice. These records do not contain your card details. Transaction identifiers and signed notifications are not sent to Google Analytics.

Children

Checkers is suitable for all ages. It has no ads and no tracking, and usage statistics use a pseudonymous per-install identifier.
